Born with a famous last name Stella McCartney, daughter of Beatles bassist Paul McCartney, proved to be worthy of adulation in her own right. Expressing interest in fashion at the early age, she made her first jacket when she was thirteen years old. Not long after that she perfected her skills interning for Christian Lacroix, Edwards Sexton and Savile Row. In 1997, she succeeded Karl Lagerfeld as Creative Director for Chloé and despite criticisms from her predecessor her designs have garnered praises from noted fashion critics and was well received by the masses. McCartney launched her own fashion house under her name in a joint venture with Gucci Group in 2001. A lifelong vegetarian herself, she advocates the use of non-leather, cruelty-free materials and strongly supports PETA in their fight against animal cruelty.
