The French fashion house Dior launched its first collection in 1947. The house, having been established a year before, proved that the long wait for the unveiling of their designs was worth it when the collection amassed rave reviews and was credit for the ‘new look’ of that era. The silhouette characterized by a fuller bust, cinched waist and calf-length full skirt influenced the fashion world up to the 1950’s. Several designers have shaped the Dior we know today. After Monsieur Dior’s death in 1957, his head assistant, Yves Saint-Laurent was promoted to artistic director. Another notable designer that lent its talent to the label is John Galliano who assumed the post in 1997.
